Two men have been convicted of multiple charges stemming from a home invasion earlier this year in which five victims were tied up, assaulted and robbed. After a three-day trial, a Colonial Heights jury on Thursday convicted Daryl Lamonte Sample, 32, of Hopewell and Ryan Patrick Wilson, 21, of Chesterfield on charges including robbery, attempted robbery, armed burglary, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, conspiracy and wearing a mask in public. The jury recommended a total sentence of 37 ye

MOSELEY will hand a first appearance of the season to veteran back row Mark Evans this evening as they kick off their British & Irish cup campaign. The 30-year-old has been out since picking up a pre-season knee injury but has fully recovered to take his place against London Welsh. He is likely to be joined in the pack by Ryan Wilson, the Scottish age group international who was thrown into the deep end at the start of the season only to pick up a knock.

The home team was down to nine forwards, five defenceman and the tenderfoot minding the net had surrendered four goals on nine shots. For all that, the Edmonton Oilers still managed to eke out a 6-4 victory over the weary Colorado Avalanche — much to the relief Jeff Deslauriers. "That wasn't my best game but the guys were on my side," said the netminder.

Sometimes it goes really well. You see 25 shots in the first period and you have no goals. Sometimes you have four shots and two goals. But the story of the game was that the guys competed. They deserve those two points   -Jeff Deslauriers

Camarillo — The Scorpions (9-1) finished undefeated in league to win the Pacific View League championship. The offense drove 70 yards on its first possession to take control. Corbin Covey capped the drive with a 5-yard touchdown run.

Avalanche captain Adam Foote hoped to play Wednesday night against the Oilers, but was held out as a precaution with a jaw injury. The Avs said Foote's jaw is not broken, and he was listed as a game-time decision. Veteran Tom Preissing took Foote's spot in the lineup and recorded his first career point with the Avs, a first-period assist.
